The Fifteen Greatest Part 15

Oh, the one hit wonder.  Lots of people mock you but lots more people sing along to you.  Some are out in the open and some are hiding their musical tastes, but we all do love you.

The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats is probably the most recognizable one hit wonder out there.  It’s just so good that you’re gonna have to listen to it again.

I don’t consider Dexy’s Midnight Runners to be one hit wonders (they had three really amazing albums) but oh well.  Most people do.  Anywho, Come On Eileen is an amazing tune.

You’re best bet is to start in the 80′s.  I find that the best one hit wonders were from that decade.  From there, go to the 70′s but be warned.  Lots of bad singer/songwriter/easy listening type stuff.  From there on out, the 90′s and 00′s are rather spotty.  But who can forget this song!

Thanks for reading along over the past few weeks.  I hope you can get something out of my top 15 musical moments of all time.

The Fifteen Greatest Part 9

I love it when bands get weird.  And it doesn’t get much weirder than Blur’s album 13.

I must admit.  I wasn’t into the Brit-Pop stylings of Blur.  Their self titled album (you know, the one with Song 2 on it, known by most people as “the song that goes WOOOO HOOO!) was pretty good but spotty.  13 is a dream come true for me.  The weird, yet highly listenable album that is the perfect companion for rainy 4am drives through South Dakota (I did it once and it was amazing).

What I love most about this album is how it just goes on and on and on.  Songs end, but then Blur goes into something off the wall.  Is it part of the song or is it something else?  Who cares.  I love it.

Coffee and TV is the probably the most “catchy” song on the album (I use that term loosely) but I’ll leave you with a live version of Trimm Trabb.  God, I hope Blur gets back together for good.

The Fifteen Greatest Part 8

When I die, I don’t want a big hoopla.  I just ask that at my funeral that you take 2 minutes and 19 seconds and just listen to this song.

So. Very. Beautiful.
