The Fifteen Greatest Part 2

“Ain’t born to lose, baby, I’m born to win”

If I have a man crush, it’s totally on Josh Homme (let me take the time now to say that I’m not a fan of his homophobic rants he has made in the past.  Not cool at all.)  But getting back to the music.  “Misfit Love” is, in my humble opinion, the finest moment to date from Homme and Queens of the Stone Age.

Let’s do a checklist

  • LOTS OF NOISE: CHECK
  • DEAD SEXY GROOVE: CHECK
  • A RIFF THAT STICKS IN YOUR BRAIN: CHECK
  • JOSH HOMME’S VOICE: CHECK
  • A WEIRD OUT OF THE BLUE ENDING THAT ROCKS: CHECK

I love it.

Here’s a video of Queens of the Stone Age performing the tune on The Henry Rollins Show.  Great performance.  I highly suggest getting the studio version and going out for a drive with your stereo turned up all the way.  Ten bonus points if it is rainy and dark outside.  Have some fun.  I’ve never heard a sexier, more twisted and beautiful song in my life.

  1. Josh Homme is one of my two maybe-man-crushes as well (Stephen Malkmus is the other). It’s hard to pick a favorite QOTSA track (or even a favorite Kyuss track), but my favorite album of theirs is Lullabies to Paralyze, by a longshot.

Also, I’ve found myself playing that riff to Better Living Through Chemistry many times, thought “hey, that’s awesome!”, and then remembered it was already done. Curse you, Homme, curse you!

  2. Lullabies is an AMAZING album! I especially love “I Never Came” and “Broken Box”. Such great, daring stuff on that one.

Stephne Malkmus is pretty amazing as well! I love his solo stuff quite a bit.
