The only rockstars that exist are actual rockstars. There are no (INSERT PROFESSION NAME HERE) rockstars, especially in the library world. We are people first, librarians second, and we are all here to serve our communities and the people living in them. The rest is just other stuff, and that stuff can be distracting, misleading, and is full of ego and selfishness.
I apologize for all of the terrible energy, all of the distractions, and all of the ego and selfishness that I put out into the world and the library profession at any time, but especially between 2010-2015. I got blinded by the allure of something that isn’t real (“rockstardom” in the library profession) and because of that I know I’ve hurt & confused people. As a person, I wasn’t strong enough to avoid certain things that came at me at that time, and because of that I became lost. The only way to dig myself out of that was to change my ways, adjust who I was, and grow as a person. I hope that I have done this. I feel like I have done this, but there’s always work to be done.
Thank you for your time and friendship.
